Invisalign Q&A

What are Invisalign clear aligners?

Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment designed to straighten teeth without the metal brackets and wires that often make traditional braces uncomfortable. These custom-made aligners are clear and inconspicuous — perfect for teens and adults alike. They work similarly to traditional braces in that Invisalign clear aligners slowly shift your teeth into their proper position over time.

How is Invisalign different than traditional braces?

Unlike metal braces, Invisalign clear aligners are made from plastic and come in custom-made trays, eliminating the need for metal brackets, wires, and elastic bands. They’re completely removable, allowing you to take them out when you eat and brush your teeth.

Due to their removability, clear aligners are thought to be more hygienic than traditional braces, which are fixed in your mouth. While traditional braces are frequently readjusted by your orthodontist, they are not removable, making it difficult to clean your teeth properly.

Invisalign clear aligners also reposition your teeth in less time than traditional braces. While you can expect to wear your braces for 18 months to three years, most Invisalign patients wear their clear aligners for six months to two years.

How does Invisalign work?

The first step in the Invisalign process is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Ward. She will examine your teeth and perform X-rays to figure out if Invisalign is the right orthodontic treatment for your smile.

Once you choose Invisalign, Dr. Ward will use the iTeroElement® digital scanner to take highly precise 3D images of your teeth to serve as models for your aligners. These scans are then uploaded into Invisalign’s ClinCheck® software, which accurately maps out each shift ahead in your smile. Thanks to Invisalign’s revolutionary technology, you do not have to worry about going in for messy, uncomfortable putty molds.

As you move forward in your treatment, your clear aligners must be changed approximately every two weeks. Each set of aligners is designed to make minor adjustments in your smile, straightening your teeth over time.

By the end of your Invisalign treatment, your smile will look straighter and more polished than ever before. For more information on your Invisalign options, call The Dental Den of Allen or book an appointment online today.
